Rear Window

Observation: The women during this film were discriminated against based on gender.

Question: How were the women portrayed?

Answer: The film, Rear Window, was directed by Hitchcock during the 1950's. We see characters like Miss Torso dancing in her apartment wearing close to nothing. She is young and even naive to bring men to her place without the presence of another girl. Miss Torso is a ballerina, she drives to catch the attention of everyone. She makes a spectacle of her life.

Lisa is another woman who fits the typical stereotype of the desperate housewife. She is determined to convince L.B to settle down and eventually get married. He is not ready, but she is. The women in this movie feel the need to complete their lives with a man in it. The spinster living below the Thorwalds is on the bottom level of the apartment.
